Color negatives rule! 12 Feb 2007 BACK TO BLOG
I just got 3 films developed in the local nega-scratching-pussyhairing shop. Lately I've been using some of the trashiest color negative ever, Konica VX200. Of course most of the images were shot pretty drunk or with no intention to create good photos. This is what I find to be fun, especially the surprise element with 35mm film and the ease of just taking the camera and not worrying if I drop it or something. With digital this can't be done, atleast not with my budget. With digital I'd be constantly worried where the hell my camera is, does it get wet, or who's going to steal it. I paid very little money for my 35mm SLR and I trust their construction more than I do with my digital tools.

Like this image here, I think it's about my friend Nokela trying to vomit because I did it and he thought it was cool. This image is scanned colorneg and turned to BW.
In most cases I have no memory what the hell is on these films when I get them developed, they usually lay in my fridge for weeks or even months. It's exciting to get the negatives back and go through all the bullshit and maybe find few gems too.
I have fallen in to two categories with my photography, the serious and the not-so-serious stuff. When I plan stuff I prefer digital to instant replay my perfectionist freak images. But the best images always come with no preparation or planning, just taking images for the sake of shooting and capturing the moments and events, no matter the importance of them. This is the way I can catch the feeling and mood the best, plus the joy of working with 35mm viewfinders etc. is a whole different world when compared to amateur level digital toys. Aaaah back to scanning some stuff no-one will ever see..
