LAPIN KANSA: Barents Hockey League in Murmansk 29 May 2011 Posted by Jussi.



These are the layouts that appeared in sunday edition of Lapin Kansa newspaper a bit over a month ago, just as the hockey world champs were starting in Bratislava. I'll gather the story and publish the pics in a web gallery sooner or later.

The story follows a Ivalo based amateur hockey team during their trip to a tournament in Murmansk, Russia. I chose not to photograph any of the playing action because we thought that it had very little to do with the actual story of manly life. During the tournament I had to leave for a different assignment also in Murmansk and the very talented writer Armi Auvinen succesfully filled in with her cellphone as one of the guys injured the side of his eye and had to be stiched up. It sucks to miss such a photographic part of the story but what can one do?

It was a fun trip! Many thanks to Armi, local guide Sari and the Tukikeppi crew from Ivalo.

Last week was record breaking cold in northern Finland. Pentti Harjumaa from Rovaniemi crossed the street in almost -30 degree weather.
