Tiistain Kyyneleet performing at a houseparty. This was shot before I really knew I was going to start a punk related project. On this gig I shot with available light and with a flash. Punk shows are usually in small venues with very bad light, and the light is never in the direction where I want to shoot. On this gig the only light source was the light in the ceiling (off) and the light coming from the kitchen sink.

After shooting some of these pictures with very high ISO ratings, I decided to bring out the flash. I also decided not to play anything fancy with it, but to bring it straigth like an aluminium baseball bat in the knees.

Let me know in the comments, do you have any feelings about using a flash or using available light with a project like this. I'm going with the flash approach but would like to hear your thoughts too!

I'm now shooting for a long-term project dealing with hardcore punk in northern scandinavia region.

For this body of work I'm throwing away everything I've done before, I've always tried to make beautiful pictures with natural light. I've done this to the point where I'm neurotic about the smallest details in composition etc.

Now I'm trying to make the ugliest shit around. I'm trying to pull up a visual style that doesn't give a shit. That's what punk is about.
