No proper title today. 28 Sep 2007 Posted by Petri Uutela.
I am really tired right now... We had our school's classes in Helsinki today, so we who live in Lahti had to get into the train at 7.17 am...I woke up at 6 am... not funny at all. So I am not going to write anything special today because I am so tired that I can't think straight (and most likely my english  is full of typos and all sorts of embarrasing syntax errors today), I just wanted to post some school related image and to hype my new camera.

This image is from a recent party we had in our school. As wise as I am, I shot straight away 3 rolls of "test images" with my new (old) camera without even knowing if the camera works at all...haha...Well, the camera worked just fine. Old film camera, Olympus XA-3 with in-your-face flash. Nice and tiny piece of photographic equipment. As you can see here the lens can be very sharp if you happen to focus properly. And I like that horrible flash, so I am happy with this recent camera purchase. XA-3 + flash = 12 euros -- the joy this camera gives me = priceless. That's Frank and Ana in that picture.

Dirty young freshmen! 27 Sep 2007 Posted by Jussi Leinonen.

Recently I shot pictures for Lapin Ylioppilaslehti about the annual freshman party, or whatever you call this boozefest of embarrassing moments in history of universities. I was supposed to try to shoot the cover for this issue, and managed to get some drunken art students to pose for a picture. I think it looks pretty nice on the cover, a bit boring and traditional but blaaah it is what it is.
This 'assignment' (I love to say that) was pretty weird because I went with the flash for the first time, well just about ever. I hate flash, I can't use it at all but I managed. I didn't want to go all pro with it and just shot straight at the face of these drunken people, to make it feel and look like realistic documentary with common aesthetics of such events.
Check out the other pictures I shot for the article here (sorry about the width for you poor bastards with 1024 resolutions). Oh yeah, and comment away since we now have commenting back on!

Comments are back! 27 Sep 2007 Posted by Jussi Leinonen.
Hello! I've been working on a way to get rid of the spam we earlier had with our comments. I found this great php hack and installed it on our site and it seems to work great. You have to enter a code when submitting comments, it's a bit of a drag, but hell it keeps the shit out! Now start commenting and let us know what you think of the images we post here, and how the comments work on your browser! Sorry about not posting a picture now.

OMG LOL THE MOON! 26 Sep 2007 Posted by Jussi Leinonen.

I posted this in my personal blog of coolness and thought it rules so much I should post it here too!
So it was full moon last night, I'm not the type of a motherlover to go out and take pictures of the moon. However my girlfriend talked me to go out for a stroll and convinced me to take my digital piece of dog vomit with me. And in no time I was shooting tens of pictures, trying to spell "LOL" with the moon. I told Petri (my fellow Strap member) that I had just photographed the moon, and he disliked the idea, because we had earlier joked about people who go out and shoot the moon with a telephoto lens. You know those people who shoot pictures that have nothing in them but the 'moon', whoa. I didn't enjoy boring pictures of the moon when I was in school, so I don't enjoy boring shit today either. Get a grip, LOL!

Oh yeah, please vote for us at coolphotoblogs.com, so we can get more people checking out the blog! Thanks.

Toiletry. 24 Sep 2007 Posted by Jussi Leinonen.

I've written about this before, but I'll mention it again. Rovaniemi as a city is in constant, drastic, change. They're now finishing this HUGE shopping mall nobody needs. This picture is from next door to that monstrous pile of concrete, next to this new giant is this old crappy building with a bingo and some offices in it. I think they're tearing it up later, but why is there a toilet seat in this corner¿ I waited for a while for someone to come and take a dump in there, but nothing happened. Yet I'd bet a lot of my earthly belongings (since I'm low on money) on someone taking a shit in that one, out on the street, when it gets dark. That would be a great activist move, because.. you know, poo always works.

Shoes. 23 Sep 2007 Posted by Petri Uutela.
Don't ask me how and why have I noticed this (because I don't know the answer), but generally speaking I have noticed that I get along better with women who wear "normal" shoes. I don't exactly know what the word "normal" means here, but I am quessing that it could be something like shoes that are comfortable to wear and use, not these kind of high heel shoes like in this picture - those shoes look awfully uncomfortable. I don't get along with women with high heel shoes. I thought this would be interesting for you to know.

Literature. 22 Sep 2007 Posted by Petri Uutela.
One of the most popular forms of literature here in Finland is a magazine called Viljo. It is especially popular among young men during those quiet and intimate evening moments you have every once in a while. Viljo brings a great deal of joy.

Fridays suck. 21 Sep 2007 Posted by Petri Uutela.
This image is from a school assignment and it represents the weekday "wednesday". A recent study says that wednesday is the day when people are grumpiest and in their worst mood -- not monday as it used to be (or at least that is how people are used to think). I am not going to explain how does this image represent wednesday, maybe you'll figure it out yourself if you try...or maybe it is obvious, I dunno. I personally think that fridays sucks the most and the only time when I used to wait for the fridays to come was when I was a small kid in school and when I was in my crappy job few years back... Now, I don't have a reason why to wait for weekends... Right now I'm once again in a bad mood, f*ck. But once again I have to say that I really like the look of slide film. The colours and contrast, wow... That makes me sort of happy, but at the same time I'm frustrated about the fact that in future I have to shoot with digital gear...fu*k, I allready hate that idea with all my soul. I really don't want to struggle with that digital bullsh*t again.

Sorry about this negative post, but hey, I'm having a bad day (sorry, I mean bad evening).

Hot chicks getting thrown on the street. 18 Sep 2007 Posted by Jussi Leinonen.

I remember these things being my first ever exposure to naked ladies, you know in the form of pictures. Of course I had loads of nude chicks laying around in the ripe age of four, but these odorants (can you say that, is it spelled right¿) are propably the first ones printed. My brother had these in his crappy Toyota, plus being the truckdriver guy that he is, he also had these trucker magazines with nude chicks in the last page. Now about a month ago I visited my brother's house, just to find a fresh copy of the same magazine, Ajolinja. And I almost got pissed when there was no tits in the last page, c'mon! Why not!
No girls in the magazine and guys throwing these things out the window¿ What the hell is going on¿!

Old work. 15 Sep 2007 Posted by Petri Uutela.
Here is a capture from one of my job assignments last year. I don't remember exactly what was the exhibition all about, but anyways this was shot in the Rovaniemi art museum. I remember that it involved somehow the theme "home" and there were replicas of normal finnish rooms you can find in every home. This was the "girls room" and these boys were checking that out. Once again a colour image from me... I'm worried about that.
