Arktikum story, a preview. 12 Jan 2008 Posted by Jussi Leinonen.

This picture is from the series I've been working on the past summer, and all the way to winter time. The series one frame from complete and should be done within a week. This shot propably won't make the cut for the story, so I'm posting it to the blog. The story is about this concrete parking lot building which is used by skateboarders. I think of it as more a study on the place and skating there, than a set of skateboarding pictures. Well, you'll see! Don't let the skateboarding scare you, I promise you it is nothing you would expect a skateboarding picture series be. No fisheyes, no flashes, no bullshit.

..,,.,.,.sheep 10 Jan 2008 Posted by Petri Uutela.
My apologies goes for you readers who visited the site earlier today and saw the post I had written  -- I deleted it. It was too personal stuff and after posting it it just struck like a nail to my head; I don't need or want to write about it -- I don't need that emotional crap in my life at the moment.  And for the rest of you, too bad you missed it, it was really juicy. Instead enjoy this image of my cousin and a lovely little sheep without anything relevant text to go with it. Yippey.

The world of shit. 06 Jan 2008 Posted by Jussi Leinonen.
Like many of you regular readers know I've been working on a story for the past summer, it's about local skateboarders and one of their spots to skate. I've long it done, but the final images were on a black and white film I hadn't finished yet. So few days ago I developed the film anxious to see the final pictures that would end the story, everything went perfect with the development process.. but when I raised the film against the poor lights in the ceiling my legs went weak and I felt something grabbing my throat. Something had happened during shooting, or the camera had broken down on me on the very last pictures of the story. Most of the frames on the roll were ok, but here and there few were really badly underexposed.

And so it happens that exactly those frames that were the closing images, were completely unusable. FUCK. So now I was left with more than a summer worth of work, and nothing to finish it with. I don't know was it my error, or the equipment. Everything seemed to work properly at the time of shooting, though it was freezingly cold.
So yesterday I went back on location hoping to have similar conditions with snow and everything to get the image. Thanks to climate change snow was still low and everything was exactly like over a month ago. I shot half a roll and hope to have it.
Thanks for reading. If this teaches me something it's that never use nothing but professional class equipment to get those very important shots.
Oh yeah today's photo is of a urban bird I met in Helsinki.

Pjotr. 04 Jan 2008 Posted by Jussi Leinonen.

Just a picture or two of my partner in Strap photos and my friend, Petri. I'm posting this that you see how he actually is the bald version of Johnny Depp. The similarity is sometimes very disturbing, almost scary, especially when he has scissors in his hands or when he's about to leave on a pirating cruise to Sweden.

Relatives... 02 Jan 2008 Posted by Petri Uutela.

This is how it's like when I try to photograph my relatives and other people close to me...they are dodging my camera all the time. I don't know why is that... You very often hear the phrase "I am not photogenic" or "I don't look good in photographs", but I would say that  that is crap. If you don't like the way you look in photograps you can blame the photographer...not the model. For example at my mother's house there is a HORRIBLE photo of me on the bookshelf where I look like an alcoholic middle aged dishonest insurance salesmen from Uzbekistan. I blame the photographer, because in real life I look like Johnny Depp without hair.

Night train! 02 Jan 2008 Posted by Jussi Leinonen.
Travelling in the night train (Rovaniemi to Helsinki, about 10-12 hours) is a pain in the ass. Especially if you don't want to shed out your few pennies for a bed cabin. The seats are virtually impossible to sleep on, plus the common drunk is always roaming the train and disturbing your hazy dreams. And of course the annoying foreign kid is kicking your seat from behind, and just as you start to turn to tell the kid to stop it or... you see his father who seems to be a member of the russian mob rubbing on a 9mm under his sweater. There is no way out.
All you can do is to hope you don't have to go and take a shit, because some drunk moron managed to travel 10 kilometers from Rovaniemi before he had to piss on the floor and shit on the walls (don't worry, he'll puke in the sink in about two hours).
Anyway this is a photo of the conductor, you know the guy who asks for your ticket and tries to keep the drunks in order.
Oh yeah I almost forgot, it's my 24th birthday. Donations are welcome to my bank account at OP 564234-52743. Foreign people can mail for international bank info! Thanks! Your donations will be used for a new hard drive and a monitor to replace my 10 years old Nokia 17 inch beast.

Happy new year! 01 Jan 2008 Posted by Petri Uutela.
Yeah, happy new year everyone and thanks for visiting our site during the magical year of 2007! It's now 2008 and time for new tricks. New stories are on the way and on the works, but since the plan is still to get  some of the work published in one of those top finnish magazines, I won't be publishing that stuff earlier here on strap... Next year is a olympic year so my hopes are that during spring time or early summer someone grabs that one story of mine and publishes it...

My new years resolution is that I'm going to be "less good" person than what I really am. I am going to be less reliable than before and not to behave so politically correctly. In other words I am going to learn to be a sort of a bastard. What possibly could be the reason for this¿ Take a wild quess!

PS: Oh, the image here...nothing to do with new year...or anything else either, haha.

A late merry christmas for all of you and your families. May you all be healthy and safe during the holidays and the whole 2008. Thanks for checking our work during this past year. The first year of Strap-photos.com is turning to an end and it has been good, let's all hope 2008 proves to be even better.
Be safe and enjoy what is left of this year, sincerely Jussi (and I think Petri would agree).
