Arktikum story, finally wrapped. 04 Feb 2008 Posted by Jussi Leinonen.

I photographed for this story on Arktikum skateboarders from summer 2006 to winter 2007. Extensive photographing was done in the summer of 2007. Final set of photographs is 19 pictures long and available also in slideshow format. I had to leave out 25 pictures to keep the story compact and short enough. I'll post the leftovers in this blog in the near future.

The story itself is still not finished. The parking building has come up in talks of destruction because nobody uses it and nobody is getting money off it. The situation is still blurry and I haven't heard anything new about it The way things go around here they'll propably tear it down and build something nobody needs instead, like a new shopping mall. If they decide to destroy it, I will photograph all of it. If not, I'll keep photographing there as before.
I'd like to thank everyone who appear in these pictures, and everyone who has felt the smooth concrete of Arktikum.

Since Petri has been talking about his new self as being less the nice guy that he is.. So here you go, Petri Uutela Version 2.0. Taken on the same minute as some of the earlier pictures one can find in this blog. I don't think he is that scary though.

I sent a photo to Kameralehti's (the biggest photo related magazine in Finland) annual competition. I was sure I had the winning shot with this portrait of my father, little did I know that couple of days ago everything I believed in would be crushed. The photo wasn't even mentioned in the competition article. I've cried for days, looked at this image through a drunken haze, still unable to understand why they didn't love it. I was so sure.
I'm left alone, naked, with no direction where to go with my photography. I have no idea what kind of pictures won, because I got the news from a friend and after that I just collapsed. The needle in my artistic compass is spinning wild. I have no grip to life itself.
What do you think¿ Is there any point to go on, after such a hard blow¿ :D

Nothing special, just some tourists in the night train, travelling north in search of snow. I don't know if they got their money back since there wasn't much snow at that time of the year.
