Blaahblaahblaah! 10 Oct 2008 Posted by Petri Uutela.

I have a one small advice for you: if you think that you can learn how to take good pictures and tell your thing with your pictures by teaching yourself (documentary, art, whatever...), don't bother applying to school to study photography. It will kill your inspiration and motivation. At least that is what's happening to me here in Lahti. I came here to learn photography and I am still waiting when they will start actually teach us how to take pictures... My pictures are  the same like they were before school and they will continue to be unless someone actually start teaching us how to break away from our maners and style. In other words, when they will teach us how to take pictures and not just some other stuff related to arts and communication/viestintä/whatever things. Right now,  I have to skip classes and to use my time taking pictures for my personal projects. Otherwise I will just lose my mind.

The Institute Of Design has it's reputation which will help in some things, but my opinion is that you don't need it if your goal is to learn to take meaningful pictures and you have the will and talent to do it by yourself...

New members, they're in! 03 Oct 2008 Posted by Jussi Leinonen.
Along with this by-the-book portrait of Marjaana, I'm announcing our new members so they can get to blogging! We have two (2) new photographers joining the team, both from Finland.

Their names are Samuli Ikäheimo and Antti Sompinmäki. You might know them and their work, or you might not. If you do what you should, which is bookmark this site right now, you'll know them soon enough.

Both of them should have stories out soon, or a bit later. And their info will be up soon too.

.....street, Helsinki last summer. 28 Sep 2008 Posted by Petri Uutela.
I apologize that I haven't posted anything in few days... I changed my computer and right now I have only laptop with uncalibrated monitor. It's quite impossible to edit pictures now. That will change in next week.

Feedback needed, COMMENT! 26 Sep 2008 Posted by Jussi Leinonen.

Kokkolarock, 2008.

Hello everyone. The following post will ask for your opinion about something, and inform everyone who cares or would like to read about the future of STRAP.

First of all, I'd like to ask our visitors what do you think about festival reportage stories published on this website¿ Do you think they're interesting and suitable material¿ I'm asking this because I have two stories about festivals in the vault, one ready for publishing, one kept secret till next summer. The second one (about provinssirock 2008) is my best work so far, at least when it comes to mass events like these. I can't show it because it's going to be published right before Provinssi 2009.
Please answer in the comments. I'd like to hear.
P.S. The pictures aren't your normal bullshit festival footage with just bands and and microphones in someones nose.

Also I'd like to announce that we now have two new members found. We had discussions with couple of guys who were amazing, but after spending countless of hours working with this, starting it with Petri etc.. No bad feelings. I'm not quick to take new guys on who we don't know or don't have the possibility learn to know easily. It might seem stupid for you, and some might think I'm being a pretentious asshole, so be it. Also we decided to keep it Finnish. I hope it all goes well and we develope a sense of unity and work together to promote our work. More to come later!

Again, please comment about the first question!

Kauhajoki massacre. 23 Sep 2008 Posted by Jussi Leinonen.

Today Matti Saari, a man in his early twenties shot 10 of his schoolmates and finally himself, he died of his injuries few hours later. This is devastating news, coming just under a year after the Jokela massacre where a similar person murdered 9 people with a handgun.

Footage of the killer posted in his web galleries. Because of suspectful footage, the man was in police custody yesterday but they let him go and did not take the gun from him.

The youth in this country is sick, and help is not getting where it should be.
