The picture here is from a "4 x the right one" -story. The story was about people finding the "right one" - some personal treasures. Someone had perfect house, someone perfect car, someone perfect horse...and lady here had the right Lundia bookshelf for her.

I must say that I was expecting a little bit more than half empty bookshelf when we went to talk to her and take the pictures. She asked me to take a picture where you could not see that the books had been removed couple of days earlier... Well, that was an impossible thing to do... I thought that he only way to make an interesting shot out of this was to show everything... I hope she didn't mind this a little bit humorous picture.

POHJOLAN SANOMAT: Sampo bank. 04 Jul 2008 Posted by Petri Uutela.

Here in Finland the Sampo bank has been in trouble since it merged with some Danish bank few months ago. The internet services didn't work properly and there has been malfunctions with credit cards and with ATM machines also. Due to this a lot of customers have moved to another banks and Sampo has lost thousands of customers. The news here was that Sampo is still losing customers... I had the idea of taking a picture where customers were walking out of the bank, but it did not work because the entrance was not the way I imagined it to be. So I tried to get the same feeling with just people passing by.

KESKIPOHJANMAA: Voimaviivat graphic exhibition. 01 Jul 2008 Posted by Leinonen.

This image wasn't published in the paper, instead of this there were 4-5 colums wide picture of some of the works presented in the exhibition. I originally meant for that picture to act as a small headline picture on the frontpage, but somehow it got mixed up. I thought that was the wrong choice to make because the story quoted this guy (local artist, Esa Riippa) frequently and he gave us the whole tour with great info about the work. Here's the picture that did appear in the paper:

Yeah of course it shows the work better, but I think showing the passionate guy who spoke in the story with some work would work better as the main picture. I don't know, what do you think? For me, the one below is just a reproduction of some work (artist Kuutti Lavonen) in the exhibition. Mmmm, too bad the other one got left out.

KESKIPOHJANMAA: In the movies. 30 Jun 2008 Posted by Leinonen.

The story was about going to the movies, and how big movies like Indiana Jones 4 (kicks ass by the way) and Sex in the city have brought the cinema back in the game this summer.

We went to see how people still turned out to the 17th viewing of Sex in the city. The theater wasn't full, but plenty of people (mostly women) showed up.
I don't know about this Sex in the city movie, but you should definately be a man and go see the fourth Indy flick, just to get that extra hair on your chest. Serious coolness.

A portrait of the mayor of Kemi, Ossi Repo. When I took this picture I had to ask in the middle of the interview if he could spare me few minutes to take the picture... I hate to do that (to go and disturb the reporter while he is doing his job), but what could I do...I had to go to the next gig out of town so this had to be done quickly. When I entered the town hall building (for the very first time) I looked around for about 15 minutes and figured out 3-4 different spots where to quickly take the pictures. Of course when I took the pictures in those places it didn't look like I thought it would... This picture was taken after the session...we started to go back when I decided that I want to take one more frame with this backround. Also in these later pictures the mayor is also more relaxed. As you can see there is just a little bit of smile while he is looking for the future.

KESKIPOHJANMAA: Ullava camp of arts. 28 Jun 2008 Posted by Leinonen.

Ullava is a small town near Kokkola. This annual camp is pretty much the main newsworthy thing there, if leaving out the countless amounts of interesting people who must live there and in my opinion deserve to be covered. But not everything can be done in a daily newsroom, so these guys from Helsinki and Espoo were the main picture of the story.

KESKIPOHJANMAA: Sunny vacations 27 Jun 2008 Posted by Leinonen.

The story was about being able to get a holiday in foreign locations at this time of the year. We had a hard time finding a picture since we couldn't make it to the offices in time.. so no clients, no happy people with tickets. One aspect of the story was that holiday offices have gotten more clients through e-mail and the internet. So the picture is more about that.
P.S. I met Petri today at the Suviseurat spiritual happening. He looked well and had this cocky boy strip of beard sticking out of his chin. I'm not sure but I think you can expect a medium sized photo story about this event (suviseurat, not me seeing Petri) hitting strap sooner or later. Maybelicious.

POHJOLAN SANOMAT: Building lighthouse. 26 Jun 2008 Posted by Petri Uutela.

A worker from a factory which made a lighthouse for 2008 "asuntomessut" (I don't know how to translate...it's this big happening where house manufacturers present their new houses for people for a few weeks and after that those houses are sold. Annual thing.). This was one of the first gigs I had and also the first gig where shooting JPEG + RAW saved me. In the factory the lightning (= white balance) was really difficult. Meter and check the white balance correctly...then turn a little bit and suddenly you have totally different color of light... During the shooting I was mostly just fiddling with the white balance. The jpg's were mostly useless. This picture is processed from nicely exposed RAW and still this was a really pain in the groin to photoshop and get the colors somehow correctly.
